Reactive Steel Target Basic Safety Rules and Precautions
Caution! Failure to read and understand these instructions prior to the use of this product greatly increases the risk of injury to persons and property. You should read and fully understand the following instructions before any attempt to use this product in any manner!
· Always wear ANSI approved safety glasses with side shields to protect the eyes. · Always wear shooting rated hearing protection to protect the hearing. · Always wear a baseball type hat with the brim down snugly against the top of your shooting glasses. This protects the forehead and top of head from the bullet's lead and jacket particles and from hot ejected brass flying about the air. · Strongly recommended for all shooters and people on ranges where steel targets are used; long sleeved shirts and long pants to reduce the potential of injury from lead and jacket splash-back. · Bullets, after hitting steel targets, create a “splash cone” of lead and jacketed particles that can travel greater than 20 yards for handguns and greater than 75 yards for rifles. This “splash zone” can reach up to a 25-degree cone angle in a 360- degree direction from the surface face of the impacted steel target. · Highly recommended is the exclusive use of frangible ammunition when shooting at any steel target. The use of “frangible ammunition” will reduce these potential injury-causing particles substantially. Contact your ammunition distributor / dealer for additional information on frangible ammunition availability and its use. · If using non-frangible ammunition, use only quality duty / service type handgun ammunition with a maximum muzzle velocity of 1,500 FPS. Rifle ammunition muzzle velocity should not exceed 3,200 FPS. · Never shoot Armor Piercing (AP), steel or hardened type ammunition at any steel plate! · Use shotgun lead birdshot and buckshot ammunition only on steel targets. · No Shotgun Slugs! · Recommended minimum distance from the shooter: Rotator®: 8 yds. for handguns; 15 yds. for shotguns. Urban Rifle Target: 75 yds. · Spectators stand 10 yards directly behind the shooter. · Use only on a properly constructed firing range with adequate backstop height (minimum 25 feet) and adequate downrange safety area (minimum 500 yards). Locate the steel target as close to the range backstop (approx. 10 feet or closer) as possible, as this will assist in reducing the downrange ricochet effect and distance. · Discontinue the use of any steel target at close range (less than 75 yards) that has surface craters caused by wear or improper ammunition use on the target’s impact area. The target’s impact surface must be smooth and flat to safely use at less than 75 yards. · Never shoot hardened or Armor Piercing (AP), steel or hardened type ammunition at any steel target! · Never shoot any type shotgun slugs at any steel target!
****** Caution ****** ** The use of steel targets may result in serious personal injury or death! **
